Marine Organizations

Here are some boating organizations that may be useful for enhancing your boating knowledge and safety. Most of these groups have local chapters that you can join.

American Boat Association - If you are a boater or boating enthusiast, ABA membership is for you! It costs absolutely nothing to belong to ABA, and there are many immediate, valuable, no-strings attached benefits to membership. As an added bonus, whenever you take advantage of any one of the benefits, your free membership supports ABA's mission to promote boating safety, affordability, growth, and a clean environment. American Boat Builders & Repairers Association - ABBRA, founded in 1943, serves to strengthen and to encourage the professionalism of the marine service industry through the sharing of knowledge and the search for solutions to common problems.

America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association (AGLCA) - America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association (AGLCA) is an association of boaters who have cruised or dream of cruising any or all of America's Great Loop. The purpose of the association is to provide information to boaters who are interested in cruising America's eastern waterways, including the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways, the Great Lakes, the Canadian Heritage Canals, and the inland rivers of America's heartland. America's Great Loop is the continuous waterway that circumnavigates the eastern portion of North America - along the Atlantic seaboard, across the Great Lakes, through the inland rivers, and around the Gulf of Mexico. It is sometimes referred to as the Great Circle Route.

American Institute of Marine Studies - Selling your boat? Learn the advantages of donating your vessel to the American Institute of Marine Studies. The American Institute of Marine Studies, Inc. was charged in 1974 with the primary purpose of developing educational programs in oceanography, tropical agriculture, and interested fields. From the millennium year our primary focus shall be to assist the education and research needed for the replenishment of the world's marine resources.

Association of Certified Marine Surveyors - Furthering the Profession ACMS (The Association of Certified Marine Surveyors) is an organization dedicated to furthering the marine surveying industry through communication and cooperation between individuals. We began the organization process during 1998 and were chartered as a corporation in the State of Rhode Island in July of 1999. Our primary goal is to provide an association for the purpose of certification and accreditation to which experienced Marine Surveyors can belong. Most associations charge annual dues well in excess of the cost of any actual service they may provide to the surveyor. We are offering interested Marine Surveyors who are certified or accredited a viable organization with reasonable annual dues. We are offering interested Marine Surveyors who are not yet certified an opportunity to advance through our qualifications procedure to certification.

Association of Marina Industries - (Created by the merger of MOAA and International Marina Institute.) Welcome to the Association of Marina Industries! AMI is a non-profit membership organization which offers management training, marina information about research and education, legislation and environmental issues affecting the marina industry. AMI is a marine trade organization which encompasses all segments of the marina industry both within the United States and around the world.

Association of Marine Technicians - This association is dedicated to enhancing the skill level and professionalism of all marine technicians. The goal of AMTECH is to improve the quality of marine service and repair industrywide.

The Antique Outboat Motor Club, Inc. - In 1866, the first outboard device was patented. Since that time, over 160 manufacturers have entered the industry - few remain. Names like Caille, Waterman, Walnut, Lockwood, Motorgo, Columbian, Gray and Ferro are all forgotten except for AOMCI, A WORLD-WIDE, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEVOTED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN ANTIQUE OUTBOARDS, THEIR PRESERVATION, AND THEIR RESTORATION. N071302

Boating Industry Association of Victoria Limited - The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIA) is a non-profit organisation which represents over 90% of the recreational boating industry around Victoria. The principle aim of the BIA is to promote recreational boating as a safe, environmentally responsible pastime for families and individuals. BIA members are qualified and knowledgeable in their field of expertise and as such, are able to provide consumers with the highest level of service and advice.

Boating Industries Association of New Zealand - New Zealand is a small island nation surrounded by coastal harbours and islands. Auckland, the City of Sails, has a population of 1.3 million and is the boating centre of the sub-tropical North Island. The mountainous South Island provides numerous alpine rivers and beautiful lakes. It is therefore no surprise that salt and freshwater fishing is the nation's most popular participation sport and that one in ten people own a boat.
